چکیده

In the past, different works based on numerical simulations have been presented to explain magnetic fields (MFs) in the large scale structure and within galaxy clusters. In this review, I will summarize the main findings obtained by different authors and even if many details are still unclear I will try to construct a consistent picture of our interpretation of largescale magnetic fields based on numerical effort. I will also sketch how this is related to our understanding of radio emission and summarize some arguments where our theoretical understanding has to be improved to match the observations.

Non-thermal processes in cosmological simulations

Non-thermal components are key ingredients for understanding clusters of galaxies. In the hierarchical model of structure formation, shocks and large-scale turbulence are unavoidable in the cluster formation processes. Understanding the amplification and evolution of the magnetic field in galaxy clusters is necessary for modelling both the heat transport and the dissipative processes in the hot...

30TH INTERNATIONAL COSMIC RAY CONFERENCE Propagation of UHE protons through a magnetized large scale structure

The propagation of UHECRs is affected by the intergalactic magnetic fields that were produced during the course of the large scale structure formation of the universe. We adopt a novel model where the large scale extragalactic magnetic fields (EGMF) are estimated from local dynamic properties of the gas flows in hydrodynamic simulations of a concordance ΛCDM universe. With the model magnetic fi...

Fe b 19 96 Magnetic Fields and Large Scale Structure in a radiation dominated Universe

We consider that no mean magnetic field exists during this epoch, but that there is a mean magnetic energy associated with large-scale magnetic inhomogeneities. We study the evolution of these inhomogeneities and their influence on the large scale density structure, by introducing linear perturbations in Maxwell equations, the conservation of momentum-energy equation, and in Einstein field equa...

Shock Waves in the Large-Scale Structure of the Universe

Cosmological shock waves are induced during hierarchical formation of large-scale structure in the universe. Like most astrophysical shocks, they are collisionless, since they form in the tenuous intergalactic medium through electromagnetic viscosities. The gravitational energy released during structure formation is transferred by these shocks to the intergalactic gas as heat, cosmic-rays, turb...

Galaxy formation and cosmic-ray acceleration in a magnetized universe

We study the linear magneto-hydrodynamical behaviour of a Newtonian cosmology with a viscous magnetized fluid of finite conductivity and generalise the Jeans instability criterion. The presence of the field favors the anisotropic collapse of the fluid, which in turn leads to further magnetic amplification and to an enhanced current-sheet formation in the plane normal to the ambient magnetic fie...
